What was your first car?
I was wondering what your first cars were. I have a hunch that the mustang bug got many of us early in our driving careers. My first car was a 1992 Mustang Convertible, bright calypso green with a white roof and grey cloth interior. It was fully loaded, and extremely economical because it had a 2.3 L 4 cylinder. It even had a weight reduction (lots of rust) on it that gave it more Character.

Mine was a 55 chev. in 1966. mods, was 409 stuffed under the hood, 4 sp muncie. 2dr green, no chrome, nerf bars for bumpers. baby moon hub caps, staggered oversize tires.Viet Nam runied my hopes for a 67 GTA limegreen. Then two many kids to fit in one in the later yrs. Best chance was my 06.I got it.

My fist car was a spotless red and black 2+2 mustang. I worked my butt off for that car, taking as many hours at the local burger king as I could and mowing lawns. My father told me that I had to buy my own car and first six months of insurance (there was no free lunch here). It was a great car, I had it for seven months until I was T-Boned. I learned no matter how hard you worked for something, someone could take it away from you in a blink of an eye. A lady looking for her cigarette that she dropped on the floor ran the red light about 45- 50 miles per hour and hit me, my knees went through the dash and head smacked the side pillar and windshield. The lady didn’t seem too concerned about my condition; she stood on the side of the road and puffed away on her cigarette as my friend tried to help me out of the car. She had no driver’s license, insurance or registration. We took her to small claims court and were awarded the full amount but in the end all I got was $25 dollars out of her, the car was worth $4600. After that all I could afford was a science experiment mustang, that’s where I learned how to turn wrenches. My $375 mustang found every penny I had and wanted more on a weekly basis. All in all I have had 9 mustangs (that I can remember anyhow). Looking back I have some great memories behind the wheels of those cars and still to this day making new ones in the 06 we have now.

My very first was a 79 Firebird, but I didn't have that car long (got in some serious trouble with the law).
So, I consider my 2nd car as my first REAL car.
It was a beautiful 1969 Ford Fairlane, LIME gold of course-which is the main reason I wanted my 06 LL GT.
Bought the Fairlane in 88 or thereabouts-42K on the clock, and EVERY aspect of the car verified the milage. If only I had that car now...Unfortunately, being my only means of transportation, and being young and stupid, and in the military two states away from home, caught the milage up with the age. The car did break down occasionally, but NEVER left me stranded. Sooooo easy to work on.
It had an odd package: 351W, FMX tranny, 9" rear, had a trim package (extra chrome), but NO PS, PB, or Air. Did have an AM radio though!
It was IDENTICAL to this one, except the wheels. I had torque thrust-Ds installed, with the centers painted green to match the car:

My first car was a 1967 Chevy II. Wish I never sold it. My second car, which I still have (doing a frame restoration) is a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am. My third and forth cars were a 1996 Firebird Formula and a 2001 V6 Firebird. Then I got the beauty I have now.

1967 Chevrolet Corvair Monza with 4sp and sport interior. Ralph Nader was an idiot. High school buddy's dad was the local Chevy garage mechanic and a Corvair specialist. Zippy car and handled well for its day. Gas was expensive at 32 cents a gallon (for high test) oil checked, windows cleaned, and probably a free glass or other promotional trinket that gets lots of money at garage sales. Damn... I'm old, but what a life so far.

New 1969 Formula "S" Barracuda fastback. 340 W/Torqueflite. Color was like an army green. Ran like a scalded cat and beat a lot of big blocks. Traded it in for a 71 Challenger with a 318. Regretting it ever since.

First car I drove (learned on and used for a few years) was a 1970 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron, Dark Metallic Blue with a White Vinyl top, Big 440, Holley 4-barrel and auto 727. She was a land yacht and could probably hide as many bodies in the trunk as it could carry passengers, but she could also get up and go. My high school buddy couldn't believe it when I jumped at a light fully loaded with passengers and he couldn't get by in his '72 Mustang(351). I will say he was limited by a 2-barrel carb, but the look on his face was priceless none the less.
First car I purchased was a '76 Malibu Classic - White with Red interior and had the swivel bucket seats. 350 w/turbo 350 auto. Mowed lawns to save up the $1000 cash to buy off of my grandparents around 1991. It was 15 years old but in stellar shape... sadly it was not in great shape(but still pretty straight) when I finally let it go 2 years ago. I always wanted to hang on to it to restore her, but I just had no place to keep her. She served me well and was fun while it lasted, closest thing to a "fun" car until a year ago when our Limer entered the picture.
The Princess' first ride was a '78 Ford Fiesta, Pumpkin Orange. It served her well and we have quite a few memories from our first years in that poor thing... practically was stroked out on the right hand side (window didn't work, door handle didn't work, etc.) That does serve the distinction of being the ride I learned to drive a manual on, as my first rides were all auto's. I finally put this out of it's misery by throwing a rod out the block on the right hand side while travelling on the freeway at 65mph. Thrilling to say the least!!

A Lime Gold 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 with a 351 HO motor. A car a bought off my parents in 1976. I wish I still had that car. I guess thats why I bought a legend lime now. Its funny how things come back around! Thank you again to my Dad and Mom.
